Meditation and Yoga

Meditation and Yoga are two related fields.  Yoga is a way of letting oneself to practice good health and well-being. This involves improving the person’s physical, mental and emotional well-being. Yoga also cultivates the liberation of one as well as the emancipation or reaching Nirvana. Reaching Nirvana can be quite hard because it entails being satisfied with everything that you have. It does not necessarily mean you are wealthy enough to have all things. Being satisfied in life will let you appreciate even the smallest contributions you will gain on the way.

Meditation is a discipline which deals with getting one’s mind into a conditioned state. It allows one to use the mind in a better way by being in a deeper state of awareness. It is a form of practices where people try to vary their mode of consciousness. Many benefits have been known by undergoing meditation.  It is oriented with the inner energy one can have. Some people may meditate along with prayers and reading of traditional scriptures. During meditation, a person nurtures a different internal feeling such as compassion and empathy.

Meditation falls in one of Yoga’s limbs. There are eight limbs of Yoga. These are Niyamas, Assanas, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi, Yamas and Pranayamas. The limbs particularly focus on certain characteristics that a person commonly have. The characteristics are don’ts, dos, exercises, breathing techniques, control, concentration, meditation and super-conscious mind state.

Meditation falls on Dhayana. This practice allows a person to achieve better physical, emotional and mental balance. With these three aspects in equilibrium, one can unite himself/herself with a higher being.  Yoga can help in meditation by letting the person see the correct way and avoid the distorted directions in life.
Stated below are three quotations which deal with meditation and yoga. These quotes greatly express how both practices can help the person’s development.

“Through the practices of Yoga, we discover that concern for the happiness and well being of others, including animals, must be an essential part of our own quest for happiness and well being. The fork can be a powerful weapon of mass destruction or tool to create peace on Earth” –Sharon Gannon
Through the use of yoga, people will learn many things which will not restrict them of living the life to the fullest. Also, Yoga practitioners will be familiarized with spiritual evolvement. This can be greatly suitable to different ages.

“Empty you mind, be formless, shapeless – like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put in a teapot, and it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” –Bruce Lee

By emptying your mind, you may be able to relax. Meditation allows one to be in a relaxed state, free from worries. One can greatly benefit from meditation due to the health benefits it provides. There are many meditation techniques available in today’s time. Among these are breathing meditation, Nada meditation, Raj Yoga meditation, Vispassana meditation, color meditation and Chakra meditation.

“Meditation brings wisdom; lack of meditation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what hold you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom.”

Wisdom will follow with a clear mind. Through meditation, you will free up negative thoughts and thus creating more space for your mind to take in useful information. It aims to let you be more prepared with the future and not dwell with the bitter past a person may have.
